Orthobiologics are a new and exciting field of non-operative medicine showing great promise in helping patients heal from injuries and degenerative conditions. Orthobiologics use natural substances, such as platelet-rich plasma or your own body’s cells, to promote healing. These treatments may help patients by reducing pain, improving function, and helping the body heal itself. They can be used to treat a wide variety of conditions, including arthritis, tendinitis, and injuries to the ligaments and tendons, and muscles.
Types Of Orthobiologic Treatments
There are many different types of Orthobiologic treatments, each with its advantages and disadvantages. One type of Orthobiologic treatment is called platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy. PRP therapy involves taking a sample of the patient’s blood and then separating out the platelets. The platelets are then injected into the injured area, where they release growth factors that help promote healing. PRP therapy is often used to treat injuries to the tendons or ligaments.
Another type of Orthobiologic treatment is bone marrow aspirate concentrate (BMAC), a minimally invasive procedure used to collect bone marrow from the hipbone. A needle is inserted into the hipbone, and the marrow is aspirated or removed using a syringe. The bone marrow is then processed before being injected into the patient’s affected joint, tendon, or ligament. BMAC has been shown to be an effective treatment for a variety of orthopedic conditions, including tendinitis, ligament tears, and arthritis.
